Thursday Night – Old Time Radio

Old-TimeRadio With Presenter: Daniel Vejil 05/27/2021

Hello Classic Radio Fans,

It’s time once again for Mr. Daniel Vejil to fire up a
Computer, plug in a Microphone, and do his thing.

It’s no secret that he likes “Lux Radio Theater”, so no one should be
surprised that his Thursday Evening offering will be:
“Test Pilot”, an Episode from that Radio Series, Broadcast on May 25, 1942.

Old-TimeRadio for Thursday May 13, 2021 With Presenter: Matt Cox 05/13/2021

This week on Cruising The Classics we look at two different and yet similar short stories of Joseph Conrad. They are similar in the fact they involve first mates. The first story is The Black Mate and it was originally published in Tales Of Hearsay. We’ll be looking at Theater Royale from May 2 1954 with Ralph Richardson in the starring role. Then we’ll have the chance to Escape to the China Seas in Typhoon the fourth program of escape from July 28 1947 though originally from 1899. Both are sea stories, both are enjoyable. So please join us and reexamine classic literature with otr as your guide. Thanks so much.

This week, we take a trip to the Big Apple, where we’ll listen to a pair of police detective shows. First we make a stop at Times Square, and listen to an episode of Broadway Is My Beat. Then we head to the Upper East Side, and pay a visit to Captain Kennelly and the men of the 21st Precinct. After listening to the shows, we’ll head over to the original Ray’s, for a slice of real New York pizza.

Long before Alan Reed was known on Television for his role as Fred Flintstone in the 1960’s, he had a great radio career both in New York and later in Hollywood.

On Thursday evening we will look at his career through an interview plus hear him in a terrific radio show

Old-Time Radio With Presenter: Rick Spurgeon 03/25/2021

This time we look back at a comedian whose name may not automatically be atop your list. He starred in movies in the ’30s, blossomed in OTR and continued into television. He never had his own series but was a regular on a couple of good shows. There was even a short stint with Orson Welles. So join us as we sample both sides of a versatile performer who didn’t live long enough to collect old age security
