This time on Radio Out of the Past, we listen to a great Old show.

It is one of Ron Bond’s favorites, and Joanie Leonard’s too.

During troubled times in our past, radio made us laugh.

that’s what we’ll attempt to do once again this Thursday Evening.

We’ll begin with the JACK BENNY show in which the first week of Spring is the topic from March 27 of 1949.

From that same date and a half hour later comes the Phil Harris Alice Faye show.

Vacation is their focus with unexpected results and consequences.

Those who remember the Golden Days of Radio will agree that one of the shining stars of that medium was Arthur Anderson.

Arthur used his abundant talent later to both act and direct in the many recreations produced by organizations like Friends of Old Time Radio, and SPERDVAC.

This evening we listen to a conversation done at the Friends of Old time Radio on 10/22/1993.

Arthur talks about Hotel for Pets as well as his long association with Let’s Pretend.

Join John and Larry Gassman plus John Rayburn as they chat with Arthur Anderson about his long and varied career.

Later we’ll hear “Faithful John from a Let’s Pretend Broadcast from 08/10/1946.

Hey kids, what time is it? It’s… time to answer a request from Glenn Schroeder up in the wilds of Wisconsin. If you’re over 60 you probably remember the show, but do you remember it from radio? We have an hour of what might be considered Sesame Street’s grandparent. We’ll go a little overtime to ensure our customary visit with the Baxters. We’ll be waiting for you so don’t dally.

Thursday Night – Old Time Radio Presenter, joy Jackson

Joy Jackson is the presenter for Thursday. Rather than playing another 2 shows from ART, which was done on Jan 25, I will be presenting 2 shows from old time radio. An episode from Jason and the Golden Fleece, something that Herb Ellis continually talked about in conventions I attended. And I looked around for another play that had boats and their environs. And I really enjoyed Pat Novak for Hire, the episode of Fleet Lady Rubin. So that is my second show. See you then!

Thursday Night – Old Time Radio Presenter, Daniel Vegil

To All Thursday Old-time Radio Fans,

I am playing an Episode of “Lux Radio Theater”, from February 27,
1939, called: “Ceiling Zero”.

According to https://www.oldtimeradiodownloads.com ,
“It’s a romance of the skies, a thrilling drama of the early days of
transport aviation, of the men who made it possible, and of the women
who loved them.  It stars James Cagney as Dizzy Davis, the same part
as he played in the 1936 screen version, and also introduces Cagney’s
sister Jean Cagney, in her first role on radio playing the part of Lou Clarke.”

Be Sure To “Drop” By,

We start the year with a new author and as we did a British author last time, I wanted to recrews the pond and bring in someone we’ve looked at but have really never studied.  So we’ll be beginning the works of Herman Melville on radio, starting with Moby Dick.  It is a perfect example of transcendental literature and we’ll be listening to NBC University Theater from April 10 of 1949.  Henry Hull plays Ahab, Hi Averback plays Ishmael.  Looking forward to your company on Thursday.  Matt Cox
