Thursday Night – Old Time Radio

Thursday night in The Fred Bertelsen Old-Time-Radio Room

Our guest Presenter for December 9 is “Rotten Rick Spurgeon.” Let us see what Rick will be playing for this week.

2010 is considered to be the centenary of broadcasting. But is it? And who was the first? Was it KDKA, KQW, CFCF, WWJ or none of the above?

For the final Radio Renaissance program of the year let’s explore this deceptively simple question. I think you’ll find this offfering actually entertaining as we listen to some familiar voices re-create the battle. Come along and see how your favorite choice fares.

Our presenter this week is that man from Massachusetts, John Beaulieu. Let us see
what John will be playing for us.
Again! You guessed it, it’s time for another what once was radio. I am not so sure
if it’s more fun getting the programs and listening to the shows to decide what one
to play or doing the research. This research took me to three programs and if you
want I guess you could say four different programs. I will be playing from the Hollywood
star playhouse and a summer replacement program called The Whisperer. I don’t care
to divulge any more than that but trust me you’ll enjoy. So, join me Thursday night
November 18, 9:00 eastern standard time 6:00 p.m. on the west coast. Join us an hour
earlier as Bob Acosta will be back after being away for the last two weeks and we’ll
see if he has any words of wisdom for us.

Hello out there, yes it’s me again and it’s time for another what once was radio.
We even could have a visit from the story lady, Dr. Science or maybe even a five minute mystery. Oh, and did I tell you that in our featured show we will have two shows featuring Tony Curtis. Yes, he did appear on radio. See you then!

This week, Rick Spurgeon will be playing his great selection of shows. Let us see
what he is think about.
We all know what radio does better than almost any other medium; that is, it paints
clear, accurate and individual pictures for us. This time our radio dial spins from
coast to coast as we hear (and I think enjoy) two examples of that forte. Two different
detectives give us two different examples of what I call “descriptive narrative”.
Join me, won’t you?
“Rotten Rick,”

Thursday night in The Fred Bertelsen Old-Time-Radio Room

Dear Old-Time-Radio Fans,
Once again, we get ready for our usual Thursday Night session in The Fred Bertelsen
Old Time Radio Room. Our fine host this week is an old friend, Matt Cox of Garden
Grove, California.
This means Cruising the Classics will be played once more. Let us see what matt will
be playing.
An early example of science fiction and a well loved American classic are the topics
for this week’s Cruising The Classics. We start with Jack London. Now I know that
that name doesn’t ring when we think of science fiction. But wait until you’ve heard
Escape from April 8 of 194. And tell me what you think. We’ll then go to the Mercury
Summer Theatre of the Air and go in search of the elusive white whale. There’s a
Spanish sixteen dollar gold piece nailed to the mast of the Pequod. And we’ll enjoy
Moby Dick.
